Luanshya cop shoots wife dead
A POLICE officer at Luanshya Central Police Headquarters has shot dead his wife, also a police officer. The officer later turned the gun on himself in an attempt to kill himself but the bullet only pierced the side of his head.
Copperbelt Police commissioner Charity Katanga has named the officer as constable Kelvin Kabaso of house number 138, Levy Chito Police Camp in Luasnhya.
Katanga said Kabaso shot his wife, woman constable Febby Changamba, 23 after a marital dispute.
We have a case of murder which occurred today around 09:25 hours at house number 138 Levy Chito Police Camp in Luanshya in which woman constable Febby Changamba, 23 was killed by her husband constable Kelvin Kabaso of the same address following a marital dispute. In the morning, the police officer was in second class for patrol duty then he came back and went to his house. The deceased approached the mother to come and settle the differences they had in their marriage, but when the accused came, he entered the house and threatened to shoot her,
“He went outside with another police officer Sgt Lungu who tried to prevent him from shooting the wife. He moved out and eventually shot the wife on the left side of her chest above the shoulder. She sustained bullet wounds and he went inside the house and shot himself in the mouth and sustained a bullet wound in the cheek and they were both rushed to hospital. The lady died on the way to Thompson Hospital. She is in the mortuary and the man has been taken to Ndola Teaching Hospital.”
A docket of murder has since been opened against Kabaso, said Katanga.
